
Yachting Queensland Junior / Youth Sailing Camp
 
 The annual Yachting Queensland December Youth Camp was another great success. The camp hosted by Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron has received positive feedback from those who attended. Participants were prepared for their upcoming national and world class championships, Sail Brisbane and Yachting Australia Youth Nationals. Yachting Queensland would like to thank all participants, parents and coaches for making the camp such a success and send a special thank you to the hardworking volunteers involved in Yachting Queensland programs.
 
A BBQ lunch was generously provided by Defence Force Recruiting. Thank you to Dan, Matt and the guys for their culinary skills and for supplying our youth participants with some great gear.
 
 
Australian Youth Olympic Festival Training
 
The Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) team has just finished two days training at Yachting Queensland in preparation for the AYOF in Sydney from 17-21 January 2007. The team is heading to Sydney early for extra training and to familiarise themselves with the area.

Sail Brisbane Finalised
 
Last week Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron played host to The 2006 Sail Brisbane International Regatta. 
 
A fleet of over 100 boats from around Australia, as well as international competitors from New Zealand, Switzerland, Singapore, Germany, Ireland, England and Japan took part in the ISAF Grade 2 event.

Keep Imported Raw Prawns Off Fishing Hooks This Christmas
 
With Christmas fast approaching and seafood on the menu for many families, the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority is urging Queenslanders to keep imported green prawns off their fishing hooks and on the BBQ plate this festive season. season.
Recent sampling conducted by the Queensland Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries reinforces the concerns that imported raw prawns (often sold as 'green' or uncooked prawns) pose a risk of introducing exotic viruses into the marine ecosystem that could have a devastating effect on some Great Barrier Reef marine life.

Koomooloo Launches For Its 10th Sydney to Hobart Race
The 1968 Sydney to Hobart yacht race winner and Australian yachting classic ‘Koomooloo’ launches today from Brisbane’s premier shipyard Rivergate Marina in what will begin this magnificent sloops 10th journey south for this prestigious yachting event.
Queensland Yachtsman of the Year, Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron Member and owner/skipper Mike Freebairn has been working on the yacht with assistance from the staff at Rivergate Marina for the past 4 weeks to ensure she is prepared for another adventure south.
