Mat & Nick Return From China

Australian Sailing Team members Mat Belcher and Nick Behrens recently returned from the Olympic test event in China and the World Championships.
The conclusion of the 2006 World Championships marks the end of our 2006 season. We are happy to report that this year has seen many great results for us along with disappointments but we would like to thank you all for your encouragement when we needed it and your wishes along the way.

Yachting Queensland State Youth Championship
Youth from around Queensland will be coming together this month for the highest stardard youth regatta in Queensland. The 2006 Yachting Queensland State Youth Championships will take place at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron on Saturday 30th September and Sunday 1st October at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron, Manly.
The event has divisions for Lasers (Standard, Radial and 4.7), Open Monos (29ers, Vagabonds, 420s, Corsairs etc) Juniors (Sabots, Minnows, Optis, Etc) and Open Multi Hulls.

Runaway Bay Launch University Sailing Series
Runaway Bay Yacht Club launched the 2006 Runaway Bay University Sailing Regatta Series last month at Paradise point on the Gold Coast.
In an exciting development for university sailing Twenty sailors from Queensland Universities and TAFEs coming together battle it out on Runaway Bay.
"Our first event of our new university racing series was very popular, a sign of things to come." John Murphy said.

Fish Flourish in Green Zones
Coral trout numbers on protected offshore reefs are already higher as a result of the new Zoning Plan, according to the Minister for the Environment and Heritage, Senator Ian Campbell, and Minister for Education, Science and Training, Julie Bishop.
Senator Campbell said data from recent monitoring indicated the new Green Zones throughout the Great Barrier Reef were showing substantive positive benefits.
