1. Queenslanders Excel in Sydney to Hobart
 
Queensland Yachts achieved outstanding results in the 2005 Rolex Sydney to Hobart.  Five yachts represented Queensland in Australia’s toughest yacht race.  After being launched in November Graeme Wood’s ‘Wot’s Next’ achieved first in Division D with the classic  ‘Ray White Koomooloo’ first in IRC Division E. 
 
Bill Wild’s ‘Wedgetail’ came an outstanding second in Division B keeping in tact an impressive race record for 2005.  ‘Heaven Can Wait’ owned by one time world champion Peter Hollis came eighth in Division B. Antony Love's 'Sweethart', a regular starter in Brisbane to Gladstone, achieved a seventh place in Division D.  Yachting Queensland would like to Congratulate all involved with these 5 entries.

Over 3,000 people visit the Yachting Queensland Website every month! 3. Record Fleet Wrap Up the Juniper 2006 Australian Youth Championship
 
A record 133 entrants finalised the Juniper 2006 Australian Youth Championship at Mooloolaba yesterday.  Australia’s top youth have competed for 5 days for national recognition and a possible place in the Australian team for the ISAF Youth World Championships.  The shifty wind and varying conditions has meant no certainties so the pressure was on as final places were decided yesterday.  For full wrap up and results visit: http://www.yachting.org.au/default.asp?Menuid=Juniper%5F2006%5FAustralian%5FYouth%5FChampionship%2F11279%2F13545
 
4. Yachting Queensland Manly Member Accomodation Popular
The Yachting Queensland member accomodation facility has been very popular with members over the summer regatta period.  Families, individuals and groups have been staying in the backpacker style facility that holds up to 20 people.  The Yachting Queensland facility is only metres from Manly’s Waterloo Bay allowing guests to be on site for each regatta. 5. Australian Laser Championship – RQYS
 
Proud Queenslander Brendan Casey won the 2005 – 6 Australian Laser Championship at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.  Mathieu Frei and Sarah Blanck took out the Radial Men’s and Women’s classes repectively.  Sunshine Coast teenage sensation Klade Hauschildt claimed his first Australian Laser 4.7 title while  Jacqueline Van Soest proved her local knowledge receiving the crown for both Youth and Open Women’s categories.  For full wrap up and results visit: http://www.rqys.com.au/laser%206-1.htm
 
6. Is Your Club Child Safe and Blue Card Equipped?
 
Do your club volunteers have Blue Cards?  What is a Blue Card?  Has your club taken precautions to promote the safety of children within your club?  Visit  www.bluecard.qld.gov.au and take the recommended steps to make your club a friendly place for children in 2006.
 
7. Marine Turtles Appearing Soon
Six of the world’s seven species of turtles live on the Queensland coastline.  Female turtles are appear on Queensland beaches to lay eggs between October and February.  Enjoy the show at a beach near you and do your bit to protect these fascinating creatures.  Please visit www.gbrmpa.gov.au for more information.
 
 
8. Your Sailors Could ‘Score a Sponsorship’
 
The Pacific Brands ‘Score A Sponsorship’ promotion is giving 12 sportspeople, teams or clubs the opportunity to win a $5000 sponsorship.  Running until March 17, 2006 a panel of judges including Pat Rafter, Michael Clarke and Mark Waugh will award a scholarship every two weeks. 10. Marina Management Courses – Enrol Now!
The Marina Association of Australia is offering two education courses in 2006. Numbers are strictly limited for both courses.
