North Queensland Region Launch J24 Fleet in Style
 
Cairns experienced a festival of sailing on Sunday October 9 with the official launch of the North Queensland Region J24 Fleet.  The festivities featured a free sausage sizzle, wooden boat display and 80 young people trying sailing during the day.
The day culminated in the launch of four J24 vessels purchased by the region through government grants and local sponsorship.  The vessels will facilitate sail training and development in the region.
 
Yachting Queensland Safety Boat Course
 
Take the opportunity to get equipped with professional safety boat skills before summer.

ASP – IBS Youth Regatta Sails Gladstone
 
Seventeen boats attended one of the most exciting regattas on the central region youth sailing calendar.  Hosted by Port Curtis Sailing Club the event was a gathering of local youth sailing talent from Yeppoon and Gladstone.

Strong Wind Warning Boosts Spring Regatta - Maroochy
 
Despite a strong wind warning and expected temperatures of up to 38oC, a small fleet of sailors nominated for the Maroochy Spring Regatta.  A very fresh North East sea breeze provided exhilarating sailing for most of the fleet while poor boat handling and indiscretions were punished on a course that extended up river to Bli Bli.  Visit www.maroochysail.org.au for more information on sailing on the Sunshine Coast.
 
Wynnum Manly Introduce New Sailors To Racing
 
As an initiative to introduce new sailors to the thrill of competition, Wynnum Manly Yacht Club will enforce a rule of a different kind for the upcoming 2005 CIR Computers Virgin Islands Race on Sunday October 23.  Every vessel is required to contain a crew member that has never raced.  Make sure you visit www.wmyc.org.au and check out the action this Sunday on Moreton Bay.
 
Cowboys Reef Named to Honour Remarkable Season
 
‘Cowboys Reef’ was officially named recently in recognition of the North Queensland Cowboys outstanding 2004/ 2005 seasons.  Look closely at future Great Barrier Reef marine zoning maps you will see the newly named reef.  The reef is the closest unnamed reef to Townsville, the home of the cowboys.  To view the latest Barrier Reef zoning maps please visit www.gbrmpa.gov.au.
Eight Clubs Gather for North Queensland Region Meeting
 
Eight North Queensland clubs from Townsville to Port Douglas gathered on Saturday October 8 for a North Queensland region meeting at the Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron.   The North Queensland Region regularly holds meetings for the purpose of developing sailing in the region.
