QLD Youth Receive Elite Coaching

Thirty- eight youth sailors from South- East Queensland Sailing clubs benefited from one-on-one coaching from elite national coaches at the recent Yachting Queensland Youth Coaching Camp.   Hosted by the Southport Yacht Club, national coaches Mark Tonner- Joyce and Craig Ferris provided two days of intense training.


The event was part of the Yachting Queensland September Sailing Week which featured the YQ South East Queensland Regional Youth Regatta at Southport Yacht Club and the YQ State Youth Regatta at Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.

Marine Teachers Gather on Gold Coast

Queensland Marine Teachers gathered on the Gold Coast for the 2005 Marine Teachers Association of Queensland Conference.  Marine Teachers in Queensland enable students to study the marine environment and associated pursuits within the school curriculum. 

With the support of Yachting Queensland, several thousand students receive power boat training every year through the Marine Teacher at their local high school.  For more information visit www.marineteachers.org.au.

North Queensland Sailing Open Day - Cairns

You are invited to the North Queensland Sailing Open Day this Sunday October 9.  The event will involve North Queensland Yacht and Sailing Clubs.  The new fleet of J24 keelboats will be launched, together with Puffin Pacer dinghies and coach boats. 

A whole day of fun is planned for all, including an opportunity to try sailing and enjoy displays.  The event will be held at Marlin Marina, Precinct 12A, Cairns. The event will start at 11am on Sunday October 9.  For more information phone 0418 772 601.

Change in IMS and IRC Certificates

Please note that there has been a slight change to the IMS and IRC Rating Year in the Southern Hemisphere.  IMS and IRC certificates will now expire on 31 May each year, rather than on 30 June as previously.  For more information please visit www.qld.yachting.org.au.

Take Your Coaching to the Next Level - This Weekend!

Take your coaching to the next level with a Level 1 or Level 2 Coaching General Principles Course during October at Milton’s Sports House.  The courses, run by Sports Education Australia, covers principles that are common to coaching in all sports.  It aims to develop practical coaching knowledge and skills for the club coach.

St Mary’s College Maryborough – A GBRMPA Reef Guardian School

The students at St Mary’s College are part of a ‘hands on’ program to assist in protecting the Great Barrier Reef.  As a Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority Reef Guardian School, students are directly involved in protecting their local reef environment while completing their marine studies program.   Visit www.gbrmpa.gov.au to get your local school involved.

ASP/ IBS Youth Sailing Regatta - Central Queensland

The weekend of the 8th and 9th of October will see the running of the fourth annual ASP/IBS Youth Sailing Regatta hosted by Port Curtis Sailing Club.   This regatta attracts sailors from the Central Queensland region with Keppel Bay, Gladstone and Bundaberg fighting for individual trophies as well as the trophy for the winning club, an honor which last year went to Keppel Bay Sailing Club. 

Three divisions will battle it out on Gladstone harbour during the weekend including two up Sabots, one up Sabots and open Monohulls and Catarmarans.  For more information please visit www.pcsc.vze.com.
