Queensland Sailors Excel at European Regatta’s
 
Queenslanders Mathew Belcher and Lauren Jeffries provided a strong showing in the 470 class at both the Semaine Olympique Francaise, at Hyeres and the Expert Garda – Eurolymp in Italy.
 
Belcher gained an outstanding 4th at each regatta.  Jeffries finished an incredible 16th in her first international event with crew member Rike Ziegelmayer.  Jeffries then rose to the top of the world with a second place in Italy.

New Date: North QLD Sprint Championships - June 06   The Townsville Sailing Club has announced that the North Queensland Sprint Championships, traditionally held on the Australia Day weekend in January, will be moved to the June long weekend next year.  For more information please phone the Townsville Sailing Club – 4772 1105
 
Condolences
 
Our deepest condolences to family and friends of much loved sailor John Bates who passed away on the 21st of April 2005.  John made a significant contribution to the lives of many in the Queensland Sailing community and will be greatly missed.

2005 Bay To Bay – What a Weekend!
 
Over 140 Boats took to the water in the 2005 Bay to Bay Race.  A huge event on the Queensland sailing calendar, the May long weekend event was much more than a sailing race.  The event sailed from Tin Can Bay to Hervey Bay over two days past world heritage listed rainforest.
The weekend produced worthy winners with Steve Selmon’s “Shorty” earning first prize in Division 1.  “Piccolo” skippered by Gino Knezic won first place in Divisions 2 – 4 and Garry Scott took the honours in Division 5 on “Coco”.For full results and information to get involved next year, please visit www.herveybaysailingclub.org.au.

Stockland Peel Island Marathon 05 – Cleveland
 
The 2005 Cleveland Marathon got underway in light conditions last Sunday.  76 boats enjoyed the autumn weather with Brad Collett taking outright honours on his F18 Cat.  Unfortunately the conditions resulted in several classes failing to finish the day.  For latest events and news at Cleveland Yacht Club see www.cyc.asn.au.
