Yachting Queensland Home Officially Open

The Hon. Terry Mackenroth MP officially opened the new Manly headquarters and training facilities of Yachting Queensland on Friday the 18th of March.

The building features an outstanding training room together with administration facilities and state of the art accommodation.  It can accommodate up to 22 people attending live training camps or Brisbane sailing competitions.

An interested crowd of 100 Club Commodores and Flag Officers from around the state, together with past Presidents, current and past Board Members and VIP’s enjoyed refreshments on the deck as formalities unfolded.

Mr Mackenroth highlighted that the facility became a reality through a $237,000 contribution to the project by the Beattie Government, through Sport and Recreation Queensland’s Major Facilities Program.

Please phone the office on 3393 6788 to arrange a time if you wish to come a tour the new facility.

QCYC Prepare For Brisbane To Gladstone

The excitement is building as the start of the 75th Brisbane to Gladstone draws near.

With over 40 boats ready to make the dash from Brisbane to Gladstone the scene is set for the Easter tradition to continue.

Ian and Bill Wright, favourites to take the 2005 title, are hoping for a moderate to fresh spinnaker forecast to provide the power to outpace a quality fleet.  Their yacht, Saltash 11, has the potential to win the Wright Brothers their 7th 308 n/m Brisbane to Gladstone.

Make sure you get out and see this big event in Queensland sailing.  The start will be from the famous Shorncliffe Pier, Good Friday at 11am.

If you would like more information about the best vantage points, the 2005 entrants or the latest race news go to www.brisbanetogladstone.com.au or phone QCYC 3269 4588.
