YA TRAINING UPDATE

Yachting Australia is still considering the best way to move with training.  At a recent general meeting in Sydney, it was unanimously agreed by all States that they would go competency-based learning.  This is only rational as all Government and significant training establishments in Australia are going competency-based learning.  To talk with Government you must be in the framework and understand how it operates.  So the decisions are whether to: resume with Yachting Australia Training (YATL), development another similar company or simply leave training with Yachting Australia.  This decision is yet to be made by Yachting Australia.

In Queensland sailing schools have a choice.  There are currently quite a number of sailing schools signed up to do competency-based training, if the schools wish to or if their cliental request Statements of Attainments for career development.

Yachting Queensland in its role with YATL, developed competency-based courses, which cost $50,000.  Yachting Queensland sold the courses to YATL so the net result is that YATL cost YQ nothing.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT YQ

Since 1999 the profit figures for Yachting Queensland have reflected the increase in efficiency and improvements in resource development.

Yachting Queensland profit:

1999      $76, 000                                    2002            $22, 397

2000      $17, 115                                    2003            $31, 350

2001      $3, 135                                      2004            $40, 000

These figures have allowed the competitive increases over the past 10 years to be an average of $1 per year increase.

Prior to 1999 the profitability of the organisation was not good, however after 1999 staff were reduced and new systems introduced as well as resource development and general overhaul of the business.  This has led to improved success of the business that has allowed the Association to develop a new base in the building at Manly.
