Groundbreaking Coral Bleaching Monitoring Tool

Monitoring coral bleaching risk is now easier thanks to advanced technology that monitors changes in sea surface temperature in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.

ReefTemp is the first sea-surface temperature monitoring and mapping tool in Australia developed specifically for monitoring bleaching risk.

Jeff Maynard from the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) Climate Change Response Programme said the online tool revolutionised coral bleaching monitoring.

Former World Champion Returns to Mooloolaba

Etchells sailor Peter McNeill wants to again showcase his winning skills on the familiar waters off Mooloolaba in the June long-weekend 2007 Etchells Australian Winter Championship.

McNeill and his crew of Paul Turner and Greg Torpy took out the Etchells World Championship trophy when it was conducted off Mooloolaba in 2004.

He knows that Etchells regattas regularly attract the ‘whose-who’ in one-design class sailing in Australia.

ISAF World Rankings: Australia Holds On To World #2 Ranking

The Netherlands was the latest destination for the Olympic Classes as the world’s top dinghy and keelboat sailors hit Lake Ijsselmeer for the ISAF Grade 1 Breitling Regatta. After a practice week of big winds and plenty of rain, the regatta was dominated by light and shifty conditions which made for highly tactical and highly taxing racing.

The next Rankings release will be on 27 June 2007, following the ISAF Grade 1 Kiel Week.

Unfortunately Queensland 470 sailors Mat Belcher and Nick Behrens were unable to compete in Medemblik have dropped down to #3.
