Laser Sailors Race for Chocolate Bilbies

With Easter fast approaching sailors from all walks of life are in the final stages of planning which regatta they will attend during the short break.

In 2006 Laser enthusiast and current Australian Laser Association President Ken Hurling was searching for a Laser regatta to contest in during the Easter holiday break and to look for a training opportunity before the Queensland State Championships and 2006 Masters Worlds in Korea.  With nothing happening in his immediate area of South East Queensland, he urgently arranged a simple regatta for Laser sailors and such named it the Laser Easter Bilby Regatta.
The four-day event commencing on Good Friday will see 40 plus Lasers visit the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron where Hurling is an active member and volunteer.

Green Zones Will Continue To Be Enforced

Global positioning systems (GPS) will continue to be used as a tool to assist with enforcing zoning in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.

The confirmation follows a court decision about the reliability of a GPS device used in a case against two fishermen.

Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) Executive Director John Tanzer said the agency took great care to ensure any decisions to prosecute fishermen were based on sound evidence collection.
