Sailing Achievements: Nothing that could actually be called an achievement. David sails a Laser weekly at the Maroochy Sailing Club. Tries hard, occasionally succeeds, always has fun.

Greg Clarke

Background: Greg started sailing Sabots at Oxley Sailing Club, then   Cherubs, before 470’s for 8 years, followed by Sharpies, Etchells and yachts. He competed in 2007 505 World Championships before campaign Farr 30’s and Farr 40’s, sports boats and classic timber boats.

Mark Gallagher

Background: Active competitor since the late 1970’s in Sydney, Townsville, and Brisbane, and more recently as an Etchells class owner and skipper.

Qualifications and Experience: Graduate Diploma in Law, Bachelor of Professional Studies, Diploma of Fraud Investigation.

Mark is also a National Judge, Yachtmaster offshore, a Flag Officer and Director of the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.

 

 

Lyn Hanlon

Director

Year elected to the Board: 2013

Background: Lyn experienced her first sail in a Queensland Sabot, built by her father, in Waterloo Bay at the age of 18 months. Her father owned several types of sailing boats/yachts so Lyn spent her youth on the water. She has sailed in a range of dinghies including Sabots, Flying 11s, Moths, 16 foot skiffs, 470s at club, state and national levels. After living in North Queensland and overseas for many years, Lyn took up sailing again with her children and husband racing and cruising in their Noelex then their Ross 780. Lyn joined a group of passionate friends to reinstate Darling Point Sailing Squadron a number of years ago so most weekends are now spent at the club providing a venue for enthusiastic sailors of dinghies and skiffs.

Qualifications and Experience: 

Diploma of Teaching, Graduate Diploma in Teacher Librarianship, Graduate Research Diploma in Arts

YA Dinghy Instructor with Tackers Endorsement, Discover Sailing Centre Principal and Tackers Manager at DPSS, Race Officer

Currently Club Secretary of Darling Point Sailing Squadron, liaising with other like-minded clubs to share resources and ideas in relation to regattas and junior participation in the sport.

Sailing Achievements: Competed in several Flying 11 Nationals in the 1970-80s, crewed and skippered a 16 foot skiff, crewed in a 470 competing in Women’s Nationals; and skippered the family trailer sailers (Noelex then Ross 780) in a number of club events as well as several Bay to Bay races and St Helena Cup races. Currently sailing a Laser at Brisbane Sailing Squadron.

Other: Married with three adult children, two of whom continue to race in skiffs and bigger boats. Lyn’s passion is encouraging young children to learn to sail and progress to become competent sailors. She also likes to support the small volunteer-run sailing clubs in and around Brisbane.

 

 

Matthew Johnson

Background: After having learnt to sail at Humpybong Yacht Club as a kid and then leaving the sport as a teenager, Matthew returned to the club and sailing after having completed university and quickly rose to be the Vice-President and then President.  Matthew then set   about setting up Humpybong as a Discover Sailing Centre and Tackers Centre. Matthew’s passion for sailing comes from a long family involvement in the sport and the enjoyment of watching kids and adults discover the joy of sailing.

Qualifications and Experience:

Registered Architect with a background in Quality and Risk Management Systems, Project Management and Digital Communications.

Peter Yeomans

Background: Peter started sailing VJs and Moths at the age of 12 at Speers Point SC, Lake Macquarie.

Qualifications and Experience: Peter is a retired Banker who held very senior roles with a major Australian Bank both in Australia and Scotland that provided a diverse background in administration matters, people management and customer service experiences.

He has spent many years racing and relaxing on a number of his own boats. He currently races an Etchells with Southport Yacht Club.

Sailing Achievements: Several Australian Champs in RL24 class and winner of Marley Point overnight race on handicap and second across line in fleet of over 600 in 1982.

Other: 2 year term as President of Historic Racing Car Club Qld 2001-2.

Daniel Self

Background: Daniel started sailing at 13 years old with the Brisbane Boys’ College school sailing program. After two years of Fleet and Teams Racing, Daniel transitioned to the Laser 4.7 class. He has been campaigning in the Laser ever since with solid results at state and national level.
